The ‘surreal’ F1 rule change that’s triggered a backlash
The post Explained: The ‘ridiculous’ Formula 1 regulation change that has incited a negative reaction appeared first on Scuderia Fans.
“Obscene”. “Surreal”. “Ridiculous”. It’s safe to say that Formula 1 teams and drivers are far from pleased with the FIA’s most recent, and potentially significantly costly, decision.
This discontent arises from the fact that the maximum fine that FIA stewards in Formula 1 can impose has now quadrupled. Previously capped at €250,000, it has now skyrocketed to a cool €1 million.
However, this financial blow doesn’t just affect those involved in F1; it has repercussions across various FIA world championships, where the maximum fine is now set at three-quarters of a million Euros, and in other FIA competitions, it stands at half a million.
The FIA’s rationale is that these monetary thresholds have remained unchanged for at least the past 12 years and do not adequately align with the current demands of the motorsport world.
