Frank Warren shoots down calls for Tyson Fury to make big decision after Francis Ngannou fight as Oleksandr Usyk plans progress

Tyson Fury will not be retiring from boxing yet.

That’s according to his UK co-promoter Frank Warren, who has shot down suggestions that the Gypsy King could quit the sport following his close fight with Francis Ngannou.

Fury beat Ngannou, but was far from his best, prompting some calls for him to retire at age 35Riyadh Season

In a shock to many fans, Fury was floored and pushed to a narrow split decision verdict by Ngannou.

Although the heavy favourite ultimately emerged victorious, many fans came away giving far more credit to the beaten man who vastly exceeded expectations with his performance.

And Warren is adamant that the fact Fury was pushed close by Ngannou is something that warrants credit for Ngannou, rather than criticism for Fury.

“Did Ngannou turn out to be the fighter anybody thought he’d be?” Warren asked SecondsOut when quizzed about suggestions his man should now retire.

“He wasn’t in there against someone who was hapless, who couldn’t fight.

“If that happened against a guy couldn’t fight, then I’d sit there and say, ‘Yeah, maybe you’re right.’

“But it was an off-night, he won the fight, and he got clipped.

“He does get clipped in fights, it’s happened a couple of times now, I hate to see that.

“He knows better than anybody, Tyson. He knows better than me, you, what he should be doing. He’s nobody’s fool.

“If he wanted to retire, I would wholeheartedly back him to do that.

“He doesn’t wanna retire and I don’t think he should retire.

“I don’t think he should retire because it was what it was – and we’ll certainly find out if it was an off-night in his next fight.”

Fury will now proceed to an already-signed undisputed heavyweight world title fight against Oleksandr Usyk.

This bout is now being planned for February in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with an announcement imminent.

“The fight is on,” Warren reaffirmed.

“We’ll be announcing it very, very soon with the date.”
