An exhibition named Pop South Asia : Artistic Explorations in the Popular is providing all the visitors to Al Mureijah Square in Sharjah to take a look at more than 100 works of South Asian art, starting from September 2.
The exhibition is organized by Sharjah Art Foundation with the cooperation of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in New Delhi and will run till December 11. This exhibition is offering a chance for all art lovers to discover works from the mid-20th century to the present. These works are presented by artists who take on the plights of society by the use of themes like irony, humor, and playfulness.
The Sharjah Art Foundation will host artists from countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka among others. The exhibition will be concentrated on works produced using traditional crafting methods and folk culture, as well as print, cinematic and digital media.
The exhibition is managed by artist Iftikhar Dadi, John H. Burris who is a Professor at Cornell University, and Roobina Karode who is Director and Chief Curator of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. The South Asian Pop Art exhibition examines the themes of capitalism, consumer culture, and the media, reaching far broader than just South Asia.
